Fruit and Vegetables of the month: December

December’s Harvest

December! A month of surprises and joy, of food and enjoyment – the month with the best and richest table!

We all think of Christmas and more specifically, the Christmas table, the desserts we want to prepare and the aromas of desserts and foods that will flood our kitchen.

Before entering our kitchen to begin the marathon of the holiday enjoyment, we will have to visit the farmer’s market and the fruit stand so that we can put in our basket the freshest fruits and veggies of the month. All these fresh ingredients offered by the Greek fauna, one way or another, can be a vital part of our cooking and baking.

Pomegranate, except for luck, also offers a unique taste to our recipes, along with many nutritional ingredients for our body. In salad, turkey stuffing or even plain, it is a rich source of vitamins and beauty! If we come across the white flower of the pomegranate, we keep it and take it as a sign of good luck, because usually the pomegranate’s flower is  red.

Spring onions. Goes with everything, gives unbelievable flavor and is the best in a potato salad, lettuce salad and soups; The combinations keep growing depending on our tastes!

So, let’s see which fruits and vegetables December brings – which are fresh, which can still be found on our grocer’s colorful shelves, as well as, those which are bidding us fairwell for this season.
