DIRECTIONS

  1. Allow the eggs, butter and wine reach room temperature
  2. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius
  3. In a mixer beat the butter and the powdered sugar until fluffy
  4. Add the eggs one by one until the mixture completely absorbs them
  5. Lightly heat the milk and add the baking powder and the yeast
  6. Add the machlepi, lemon & orange zests and alternately the milk, sweet wine and flour to the powdered sugar mixture until all ingredients have been added.
  7. Stop beating and if we would like to add dried fruits, add them now and mix
  8. Transfer the mixture in a buttered and floured round cake ring and bake for approximately 50 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius.
  9. Allow the vasilopita to cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Tips:
–    We can also add some cinnamon and/or nutmeg to the powdered sugar that is sprinkled on top of the vasilopita
–    Instead of dried fruits we can use fruit that has been removed from the syrup of glyko tou koutaliou
