DIRECTIONS
- Allow the eggs, butter and wine reach room temperature
- Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius
- In a mixer beat the butter and the powdered sugar until fluffy
- Add the eggs one by one until the mixture completely absorbs them
- Lightly heat the milk and add the baking powder and the yeast
- Add the machlepi, lemon & orange zests and alternately the milk, sweet wine and flour to the powdered sugar mixture until all ingredients have been added.
- Stop beating and if we would like to add dried fruits, add them now and mix
- Transfer the mixture in a buttered and floured round cake ring and bake for approximately 50 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius.
- Allow the vasilopita to cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Tips:
– We can also add some cinnamon and/or nutmeg to the powdered sugar that is sprinkled on top of the vasilopita
– Instead of dried fruits we can use fruit that has been removed from the syrup of glyko tou koutaliou
